Turn Your Student Athlete’s Learning Difference into a Super Power

The National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics estimates that 2.7% of college athletes have a learning disability. While the actual number is thought to be higher, partly due to disabled student athletes failing to self-report their disability due to fear of stigma or because many student athletes with disabilities have not yet been diagnosed.

The NCAA provides championship opportunities to student athletes with educating impacting disabilities, as well as reasonable modifications and accommodations of playing rules that do not provide unfair competitive advantages.

Also, there is a list of colleges and universities that support student athletes with learning and physical challenges that student athletes can add as they do their college search.

A learning difference does not have to be a hindrance to your student-athlete. Early detection can provide the appropriate coping mechanisms, as well as knowing some schools and colleges provide the appropriate support for your student athlete to succeed on the field, in the classroom, and in life.

Have a good season!
