Athletic Profile: the resume for student-athletes

When it’s time to communicate with coaches, send emails, send letters, introduce yourself, share any upcoming contests or camps you plan to attend, you want to create a brief athletic profile that articulates how you’re performing in the classroom outside of the school and how to contact specific people who are essential in this process: your head coach, your trainer, and your parents; you need to put together an Athletic Profile.

Think of it as a resume for your student-athlete.

The components?

At the top is your personal information, who you are, your size, your weight, in terms of dominance, right-handed, left-handed. If you have already signed up with the NCAA eligibility center. What’s your ID number, parent’s information, mailing address, and critical pertinent information about you as a student-athlete

In the middle? Now you’re talking about your school and your club affiliation? What’s your head coach’s name, contact information, address, and phone number email address? Are you affiliated with a club or working with a trainer? Who is that team or individual? Put your URL or YouTube link so you can show all your Hudl of the video, so coaches can see your performances.

At the very bottom, intangible candid information coming from a coach or trainer, that coach or trainer would discuss your strengths as well as your areas of development and provide a realistic perspective of what level (Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, Junior College) on which you can compete when it is time to leave your high school.

So again, an athletic profile is a resume for your student-athlete, your personal information at the top, in the middle of talking about your club, high school, or trainer information, as well as video links to your performances. And at the very bottom, some truthful details come from your coaches and trainers about your strengths and areas of development. Have a good season!
